DIVINE HUMANITY

How important, the small things - transient, powerful!
Oiling the cogwheeels of interlocking human lives
With graphite sparks of living lubrication;
Evidence of human love and concern.
Happy routine and content are dismayed
By gestures too urgent, anger unjust
And selfishness, coldly withdrawn.
Yet mankind, all unknowing,
Is suffused with a flavour Divine,
Reflected in showers of short, fragile moments;
The compassionate ear all unhurried,
The hand-touch, refreshingly calm,
The smile which flowers in an instant.
Unbidden, unsought,
Unfailing and true -
God IS manifest in Man.
